Modeling Polarization Signals from Cloudy Brown Dwarfs Luhman 16 A and B in Three Dimensions

The detection of disk-integrated polarization from Luhman 16A and B in H-band, subsequent modeling, has been interpreted the framework zonal cloud bands on these bodies. Recently, Tan Showman (2021) investigated three-dimensional atmospheric circulation structures brown dwarfs with general models (GCMs), their simulations yield complex distributions showing some aspects jets, but also vortices that cannot be captured by a simple model. Here we use 3D GCMs specific to B, along Monte Carlo radiative transfer code ARTES, calculate signals. We adopt temperature-pressure profiles as our input structures. Our calculations at 1.6 $\mu$m agree well measured degree linear both 16 A B. reproduce for objects particle sizes between 0.5-1 \,$\mu$m 5 find can vary hour-long timescales over course rotation period. show azimuthally symmetric band-like geometries, typically used interpreting polarimetry observations dwarfs, over-predict signal if patterns do not include within bands. This exploratory work shows are promising modeling signals dwarfs.
